Big News: We’re Growing Together!
After years of working side by side to strengthen local food resilience, Working Food and the Giving Garden are joining forces to become one united organization!
On October 1st, the Giving Garden will become a Working Food farm — combining our strengths, resources, and people-power to make a bigger difference in our community. By joining leadership, we’re building on what already works and making it easier to grow what’s possible.
What stays the same:
The Giving Garden will keep running its much-loved half-acre farm, donating thousands of pounds of fresh produce each year, welcoming people from all walks of life to help grow food, and offering a welcoming space for hands-on gardening education.
Working Food will continue leading six afterschool youth programs, stewarding locally adapted seeds, teaching gardening skills, and working to expand access to locally grown and prepared foods.
What grows stronger:
Working Food gains a farm to expand youth education, mentorship, and outdoor learning.
Our seed bank will grow with new seeds from the farm, protecting culturally meaningful and locally adapted varieties.
The farm benefits from access to office space, a walk-in cooler for storing fresh food, and indoor space for events.
Fresh food donations will increase through Working Food’s strong community network.
Together, we’ll work smarter, reach more people, and strengthen our shared mission to create a fair, sustainable local food system.
We’re uniting two powerful forces for good — making sure more food reaches neighbors in need, more young people are inspired through land-based learning, and more seeds and skills are grown right here in Gainesville.
One mission. One organization. Greater impact.
