DONATE
Your support matters.
Everything we do is powered by what our community shares—time, knowledge, creativity, and funds.
The impact we make is shared, too. Your support fuels real, community-grown change.
We approach fundraising like we do the rest of our work: through collaboration, transparency, and care. We aim to be as community-funded as possible, and we see every gift as an investment in something bigger than us.

The problems at hand
Working Food’s impact ripples outward from our home in Gainesville, Florida, a city rooted in natural beauty, vibrant culture, and deep contrasts. But despite our community’s many strengths, residents face many challenges.
Local economy
When we buy food from outside our community, our local economy suffers. Only $0.31 of every dollar spent at chains stays here, compared with $0.79 when spent at local establishments. While $1.00 spent at a farmers market can generate $2.80 in local income. Supporting local farmers and artisans keeps money circulating here and strengthens community resilience.
Health & Wellbeing
Food insecurity and disconnection from nature harm both physical and mental health. 1 in 7 Floridians are food insecure, and chronic disease is rising in many communities. Spending more time outdoors and growing fresh food has many benefits. It can improve health outcomes, reduce anxiety, and deepen community connections.
Environment
Rapid development and conventional farming threaten our land, water, and local food production. Florida loses 120 acres of farmland a day to development. Much of the remaining industrial agriculture relies on chemical inputs. Growing food in harmony with nature is possible. When we adopt sustainable practices, we can protect environmental health and strengthen local food security.
Shared Abundance
Food systems issues are interconnected but affect people differently, so Working Food’s programs are designed to approach issues from multiple angles.
We work with
Growers to spread seeds, resources, and support for thriving gardens and farms,
Local schools and afterschool programs to cultivate garden-based education for youth to grow together
Farmers and community organizations to build local food connections for everyone.
Our programs reinforce each other, and are amplified as we nurture partnerships and increase our reach. That’s why we don’t just offer one solution and why we don’t work alone; we work collectively with our partners from every angle to shift the system.
Let’s flourish together
The challenges facing our local food system are real, but so is the change we make together. Making structural change is slow, collective work, but we see that we are moving the needle. By growing gardens and skills, connecting farmers and families, and nurturing the next generation of food leaders, we are improving the future health and resilience of our community for the better.
Your support is what makes this possible. Whether you give once or monthly, your contribution grows connection and nourishment across North Central Florida.
