Our mission is to cultivate and sustain a resilient local food community in North Central Florida. We employ a systems-based strategy to build a just and equitable food system, focusing on seed and food sovereignty, youth education and leadership, and small business development. Our seed, youth, and kitchen programs work collaboratively to address the root causes of food-based issues through community-driven solutions that support the health of people, the planet, and our local economy. Together we provide: 

  • facilities and business development support for 30+ food-based businesses;  
  • gardens, science, culinary and youth empowerment programs for elementary, middle and high school age students;  
  • community education on gardening, seed stewardship, nutrition, cooking and other food related issues;
  • a regional seed bank and seed collective that partners with local growers and regional seed saving networks to steward, trial and breed locally adapted food crops and make them available to the public.

Any community member aligned with our mission is warmly encouraged to submit themselves for candidacy.

We seek board members who are passionate about local food access and community building, who can bring diverse perspectives and innovative ideas to the team, and who believe in collaboration over competition. Experience in restaurant management, contract law, human resources, fundraising, financial management, grant applications, or event planning is a plus, but not required. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend quarterly board meetings
  • Participate in committee work
  • Assist in fundraising and outreach efforts
  • Provide operational oversight
  • Act as ambassadors to Working Food within the community
